Sponsor A Child
I would like to take this opportunity to acquaint you with the story of one of our organization participant’s Marquise. His story is an important reason why we help provide inclusion opportunities to recreational activities children and youth who are severely disabled.
For Marquise, arts and crafts, swimming, and bowling may seem out of reach. He is 15-years-old and has a host of multiple disabilities spastic cerebral palsy, cortical blindness, epilepsy, and spasticity ( tight and stiff muscles that are exhibited in stiff and jerky movements) which has caused him to be unable to do for himself and totally depended on others for care.
However, every summer for the past five years, Marquise gets to forget all of that and enjoy summer camp and all the activities that comes with it, thanks to Camp Angels Special Needs. He gets to experience lots of different activities and socialize other kids and people.
Most children have the option to participate in recreation, after-school activities, weekend team sports, and summer camps. At school, they have a chance to exercise in physical education classes and on the playground at recess. However, these opportunities for activity and leisure are limited for children and adolescents with severe disabilities who want to have friends, enjoy activities, have a break from parents, and be included like non-disabled children. Their interests range from swimming and sports, to visiting parks and playgrounds, attending summer camps, and just hanging out with friends but are not able to communicate their interests.
Your donation helps make the dreams of Angels With Special Needs- and their families - come true. There is never a charge to the children for participation, so donations to support the AWSN organization gives children with severe multiple disabilities the opportunities to become involved in therapeutic, recreational, and socialization activities to enrichment and bring fullness to their lives.
